i'll be waitin' for you at the kitchen door

One could easily say I have an oddly shaped nose. And when I was younger, my thoughts matched that sentiment. It wouldn't be a stretch to say I could have been heard echoing the words of Amy March "it's not like being stuck with the dreadful nose you get." My mother has a gracefully turned up nose and my sister a small, feminine nose. I never liked my own.

Until one morning, in Parawon Utah, in my great-grandmothers house I woke before the sun and tip-toed my way up the basements stairs. My Grandpa John was washing his morning dishes, humming to himself and I saw it. My nose. My Grandpas nose. A Denhalter nose. I said "Good morning, Gramps, I think we might share a nose" and he looked at me and said "My goodness, Katey-did... we do."

And I've loved it ever since.

That's why it's important to love our bodies - we pass them on to our kids and their kids and their kids. I have to love my ears. I gave them to Lucy. And I want my daughter to feel beautiful in them.

You have a very fine nose indeed. And someday, you'll have a daughter who will take pride in it too.

I feel like that about my overly-large rib cage. I can't buy clothes that zip up because they don't fit over my ribs.
Then I hug my grandad and feel his overly-large ribcage and I know that when he's gone this ribcage will be the only thing I have. And that makes it totally worth it. x

U have a cute nose. I think its taken me far to.many years to be ok with my feet. People don't care what my feet look like & as long as I have a pedicure I'm fine showing them! Lol

i loved this! i'm personally was not a fan of my nose either and still can't seem to find who i share it with in my family! sometimes when i was younger i would think i broke it when i was a baby or that i'm adopted, but slowly but surely these past years i've been loving it too.

This post makes me happy. I wouldn't mind at all if you published a book of short stories like this.
In other news, Jason's nose is smaller than mine. Seriously, how is that fair?

Loved this story! I sometimes hate my nose, I feel like it's very Large. I never use to think this but recently I've been wanting to change it.

I'm going to try harder to see the good in my nose. :)

I like your nose! What a great realization though.

P.s. I know I've said this before, but I think you just might be one of the only people I know that can pull off any hair color, cut, or style. Seriously you know how to work it, Lines!

this blog post inspired me to write a long journal entry about my grandmother who recently passed away. I hadn't been able to write about it, but after reading your post I was moved to and it helped so much. Just wanted to say thank you.

What a cute story! I have my father's nose, but I wished I would've inherited his inability to grow hair on his legs instead. Le sigh.
